"When i think back to Inis Aoibhinn, I remember it not as the place where I was when I was sick; but the place where I began to get well." Betty, a former resident of Inis Aoibhinn
Inis Aoibhinn is located on the grounds of University Hospital Galway and provides accommodation to patients undergoing Radiotherapy treatment at UCHG.
The residence provides a ‘home away from home' environment for patients. It comprises 33 en suite bedrooms and has facilities for a patient's family member or guest to share. All bedrooms are internet accessible and have direct dial telephone, television/DVD player and tea and coffee making facilities. Breakfast and evening tea are provided for residents, and lunch is available from the cafeteria located in the hospital. Washing and ironing facilities are available and car parking facilities are also available on site.
Patients are booked into Inis Aoibhinn by a referral made through the Radiotherapy Department at UHG. All residents must be able to walk independently from Inis Aoibhinn to the Radiotherapy Department for daily treatments. Residents are also welcome to avail of any of the support services provided at our dedicated Cancer Support Centre, which is located within walking distance of Inis Aoibhinn.
Inis Aoibhinn allows for complete patient privacy and independence while also having the comfort of 24 hour nurse availability.
Inis Aoibhinn opened in March 2007, and was made possible through the generosity of Cancer Care West's personal and corporate donors and supporters.
