Date to be finally confirmed
A challenging six Bens, eleven hour mountain hike, over very rough upland in the famous Twelve Bens range.
The Glencoaghan Horseshoe is considered to be one of Ireland’s most dramatic mountain hikes, and includes six of the 12 Bens. Features stunning valleys, sheer quartzite peaks, mountain lakes, gaps and spectacular views (on clear days!). There are a couple of short sections of scrambling (requiring the use of hands). Distance is about 15km with about 1700m of total ascent. The terrain includes rocky mountain tops, steep open hillside, wet bog and sheep tracks. Requires a very high level of mountain fitness, a head for heights, food and 2L of water. You will also need strong walking boots with good ankle support (there are several steep descents including scree), along with several outdoor layers (including waterproof outer layers, hat, gloves):
