Make a real difference in someone's life....
You can help Cancer Care West in lots of different ways. Any help you can give is appreciated and every donation helps us to support people affected by cancer.
How your money helps
Last year we supported thousands of people living with cancer. We couldn’t do this without your generous support.
You can make a one off or a regular donation at any time.
Remember someone
Supporting Cancer Care West in memory of a loved one is a touching way to celebrate their life and create a lasting legacy that helps people affected by cancer. Every gift we receive will help us to be there for more people through their experience of cancer. With your support, you are helping us realise our vision that no-one has to go through cancer alone.
There are a number of ways your loved one can be remembered
Donate in memory
Making a donation in memory of someone is a positive way to celebrate their life. These donations will honour the life of the person you have lost, whilst making a real difference to someone affected by cancer. You can make a one off donation or set up a regular donation.
Send us a cheque or postal order to Cancer Care West, University Hospital Galway, Galway.
Donate over the phone by ringing 091 545 000
Donations in lieu of flowers
People can also request donations to Cancer Care West in lieu of flowers at a funeral or memorial service. If this is something you are considering, you might like to include this wording in your loved one’s death notice: Donations in lieu of flowers to Cancer Care West, University Hospital Galway.
Challenge Yourself
It can be overwhelming to loose someone you love but there may come a time when you would like to take part in a challenging event in their memory. We have a range of events for you to take part in to celebrate their life and at the same time raise money to help Cancer Care West continue our work
Organise your own activity
Organising your own event or activity in memory of a loved one can be a wonderful way to celebrate their life. We are here to support you and to help you get started, to find out more please contact our fundraising team – [email protected] or 091 545000 or click here for more information on how you can organise your own event
Leaving a Legacy
One of the most powerful ways someone can help Cancer Care West is to consider leaving a gift in their will.
You don’t need to be wealthy to make a difference to people affected by cancer, and whether it is a specific amount of money or a small percentage of your will, every gift will help us to continue our work.
All you need to know about legacies
Leaving a gift to Cancer Care West in your will is much easier and less expensive than you think. Legacies left to charities are tax free and are not subject to inheritance tax, so 100% of any gift you leave will go directly to Cancer Care West.
If you’re considering leaving a legacy to Cancer Care West, you should first ask your solicitor for advice. There are two types of legacies –
- A residuary legacy, where you leave a percentage share of your estate once all other legacies and expenses have been settled
- A pecuniary legacy – where a specific sum or item is left in your will to Cancer Care West.
Changing your existing will
If you already have a will, it’s easy to amend it to include a gift to Cancer Care West. This change is called a “Codicil” and can be drawn up easily by your solicitor.

Tax efficient giving
If you have kindly donated to Cancer Care West in the last four years, and you pay income tax or capital gains tax in the Republic of Ireland, we can claim 45% tax back on your gift and make your generous donation go even further.
Donations of €250 or more in 2013 and onwards are eligible for tax relief regardless of whether you are a PAYE Tax Payer or Self-Assessed. A new “blended” rate of 31% will be applied to all donations of €250 and more regardless of the donor’s actual tax rate, thus valuing all donations from the public equally. That means that your donation of €250 is actually worth €362 to Cancer Care West – at no extra cost to you!
There is no change to Corporate Tax Relief – companies continue to treat donations as a normal business expense and there is no upper limit to the amount that can be donated.
To enable Cancer Care West to reclaim the tax, please complete a CHY3 certificate – completing the form does not commit you to paying anything – it just means that we can make the claim to Revenue

Keeping admin costs low

Our income and spending is set out each year in our Annual Report and Accounts which are independently audited. 79 cent out of every euro raised is spent directly on our work with cancer patients and their loved ones.
Why Choose Us?
The demand for our services is growing each year. We want to make sure that everyone who needs us has access to our supports and that no one goes through a cancer experience alone. But we need your help to achieve this.
1. We don't charge for any of the services we provide
Ensuring that everyone has access to all of our services is of huge importance to us at Cancer Care West, and that is why we don't charge for any of our services - so whether you are dropping in to one of our Cancer Support Centres for a cup of tea or staying at Inis Aoibhinn for 7 weeks - there is no cost to you or your family.
2. How we use the funds you raise
Your money will help us to provide a variety of services that help make sure no one has to go through a cancer experience alone. We rely on fundraisers for 69% of our funding support so you really are very important.
You can also contact us for an informal talk about any fundraising or volunteering support you might be able to give.
3. We’re careful with your money
With more and more people using our services each year, the need for our work is constantly growing.
Thanks to our loyal and committed fundraisers and donors, over 69% of our income came from voluntary giving and fundraising in 2015, so we take care to manage our money wisely. Each year we produce an Annual Report and Accounts, which are independently audited.
4. Be part of the Cancer Care West team
